LOVELY, DARK AND DEEP | verse
![]() THE WOODS. (the woods grew him a new heart.) the woods next to the village are dark and deep, and, word has it, are magic. and that magic, it is said, means that those who die within them never really die. but those who desecrate it never return. and if you aren't careful, if you get lost, they'll eat you right up. ![]() (beware.) he went out to cut firewood, and he never came back. don't cut a tree that hasn't already fallen, they had said. in the end, they just found a fresh stump by the edge of the forest. ![]() (the woods claimed her, too.) she wore black in mourning, and he called to her every night from the edge of the woods. ![]() (the maiden.) a note: from time to time, the woods do physically eat people, e.g. roots or branches through the heart, etc. etc. ![]() ![]() ![]() (come with me, the trees said.) ![]() (there are monsters here, my dear.) some were born in the forest. some were made by it. ![]() (you're going to die, here.) ![]() ![]() (even the birds seemed to grow quiet.) you'd never noticed the trees there before. ![]() ![]() (a life for a life.) the woods take life, but they can give it, too. ![]() (encroaching upon the land of the ice & snow.) |
